For those who are not entirely familiar with dogs, most people assume that dogs are rather limited in the skills in which they are capable. In other words, dogs can perform tricks and learn basic behavioral skills, but little else. Then, when the fact that many dogs assist the visually impaired in the capacity of a seeing eye dog the proverbial light will go off in people’s heads as thy realize that dogs have the capacity to learn a great deal more than they are normally credited. In fact, dogs can learn of number skills that can aid and help other improve the quality of their life. This is done in the form of therapy dog training that expands a dog’s ability to provide support and comfort beyond the confines of a domestic situation and into a variety of complex environments such as hospitals, retirement communities, schools, et al. While some may scoff at such a notion the fact of the matter remains that therapy dog training is a widely popular and hugely successful concept that has provided great comfort and joy to a number of people who are truly appreciative of the support and comfort that these dogs provide.
